8/23/2016: while moving the bike off the center stand i felt something move...and it wasn't the bike! looking down i found that the tang/foot peg was starting to break off! well, after some research i found out that it's only intended to be used to lower the stand, not for anything else! now, i wasn't using it to raise the bike, but it helped to get the bike off the center stand, something the early 80's airheads had problems with i've read. anyway, i'll see if i can get it fixed up...

9/2015: one day when i went out to the bike and opened up the carb gas started to flow out of the fuel hose onto the ground! i don't think it had ever been swapped! it would have been a fairly easy task, but getting the airbox loose so that the cross piece could be pulled through was not too easy! when working here i also found that the foot left foot peg wasn't bolted down! i did this and replaced the bolt in the shift control rod (it wasn't long enought anymore).

8/2/2015: somehow, the coil mount broke off the frame! i just cut two pieces from an aluminum bar and bolted them together...

7/30/2015: i ordered a new OEM gas gas cap because the old one suffered the non-ratcheting/spin-forever problem. unfortunately, for some reason, it won't screw down completey. worse, thinking an OEM part would just fit, i installed my original lock cylinder! so, currently, i can't return it because i can't get my lock cylinder out! :(

update 8/9/2015: the old gas cap didn't work because the spring had broken and jammed in the piece that "locked" it. :( after days of trying, taking to different locksmiths and searching the internet I finally got the lock cylinder out! how? i drilled a small hole, at an angle, via the vent hole through the plastic. I could then use a paperclip to push the clip in an release the lock cylinder!

update>: not too long after i got the lock cylinder out i sent the gas cap back. the dealer had problems with it too and by some luck they had a different one returned (this part had just been end-of-lifed and i had apparenlty gotten one of the last in the US. really!). they sent it too me and it fit just fine! fyi - i didn't put the lock cylinder in until i tested it and i don't actually lock it.
